Purpose and Summary of the Position:
The successful candidate will be responsible for application development and technical support for the Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer / Low Density Polyethylene business area mainly supporting the Automotive Compounds / Specialty Injection Molded & Extruded Foam / Wire & Cable Compounds market segments via base resin and/or formulated compounding and conversion expertise. Additionally:
Scout and assess New Application Development opportunities initiated within R&D or jointly with our Market Development Group to help drive both short-term and long-term projects to completion via the Stage-Gate Process.
Gain Process / Structure / Property / Application relationship expertise to help determine the suitability and relative preference of current or new products for new value-added applications.
Respond to product / process related customer queries and conversion-related complaints and help resolve quality/performance related issues between manufacturing and customers/sales.
Establish external product specifications and finished product critical-to-quality specifications with customers to ensure alignment of those specifications with manufacturing capability.
Be responsible for:
o Competitive resin and potential technology substitution evaluations and assessments (benchmarking / SWOT analyses).
o Technical data generation used for product datasheets, brochures, etc.
o Technical product / application training (internal / external customers).
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Polymer / Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry with at least 5 years of directly related experience
Work safely in laboratory and plant settings
Experience in Application Development and Polymer Conversion Processes for the Automotive Compounds / Specialty Injection Molded and Extruded Foam / Wire & Cable Compounds end-use markets
Business Acumen and the ability to monetize application-related opportunities
Customer value focus and experience in developing Customer value promotional packages
Working knowledge of common polymer test methods and procedures (Rheological, Mechanical, Dynamic, Solid State, Thermal, and Electrical Characterizations)
Hands-on, self-starting, goal-oriented individual with strong innovation and problem solving capabilities in a timely manner
Good project management skills
Excellent presentation and communication skills
Ability to work with diverse functional areas
Willing to travel to meet customers to conduct process troubleshooting and product qualifications (25-50%)
Desired Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Experience in Application Development & Technical Support in Tubing & Hose, Cap Liner, Photovoltaic Encapsulant Sheet, Blown / Cast Film, Flexible Packaging, and / or Medical & Pharmaceutical applications
Six Sigma Methodologies (DFSS; DMAIC)
